Shaw & Smith offer this unoaked style as an alternative for those who love the flavour of chardonnay but are tiring of heavy oak treatment. This wine has a bright appearance, pale lemon with green hues and subtle citrus aromas and flavours. VINEYARD The grapes for the 2005 Adelaide Hills Unoaked Chardonnay came predominantly from Shaw and Smith’s Woodside Vineyard. The grapes were hand picked. GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Chardonnay VINIFICATION The grapes were first crushed, chilled and pressed. Temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation to retain the wine’s crispness. Bottled early to retain freshness. TASTING NOTES Shaw and Smith believe this unoaked style offers an alternative for consumers who love the flavour of chardonnay but are tiring of heavy oak treatment. To be successful the fruit must be of the highest quality if it is to stand alone without a veneer of oak.
