It has super colour intensity and an unparalelled aromatic lift combining both power and elegance. It was voted one of the 50 best value red wines in the February 2009 edition of Decanter. ONLY AVAILABLE IN AN UNSLPLIT CASE OF SIX VINEYARD Willunga 100 is in the McLaren Vale region, south of Adelaide. The wines come from a range of vineyards, including some over 50 years old, which can produce a magnificent array of aromas and flavours. Sandy soils provide lifted aromatics, and darker soils including 'Terra Rossa' types contribute to rich, bold tannins. All the vineyards are managed to produce the highest quality possible with only the best parcels selected for Willunga 100. McLaren Vale has a warm Mediterranean climate with a strong cooling influence from the Gulf of St Vincent. GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Grenache VINIFICATION A combination of open fermenters and stainless steel pump-over tanks were used. Warm to hot fermentation temperatures, combined with regular pump-overs and plunging ensured optimum extraction, whilst maintaining the delicate aromatics of the Grenache grape. Timely pressing, only using the best press fractions ensured good quality of flavour and the favourable drying, sandy tannin structure. The wine is matured in older French oak, to add complexity and mid palate richness, but not to dominate the varietal characters. The wine is bottled under screwcap to maintain freshness and ensure longevity. TASTING NOTE This lively wine displays intense aromatics of cherry, raspberry, spice and hints of dried herbs. The palate demonstrates all the characters expected from a medium bodied Grenache: sandy, gritty tannin structure; lovely dryness on the finish; coupled with balanced sweet plum and strawberry fruit, a fantastic food wine!
