VIÑA CHOCALAN MERLOT SELECCIÓN 2009 VIÑA CHOCALAN MERLOT SELECCIÓN 2009

The Selección range from Viña Chocalán offers fantastic value for money. This Merlot has a powerful nose and palate of cherry, leather and smoke. Unfettered by oak, the fruit shines through.

VINEYARD
The Viña Chocalán is located in the Maipo Coastal Valley in the Melipilla Region of Chile.

The vines for the Merlot Selección are an average of 11 years old and are grown on 50% chalky, well drained soil and 50% deep, well balanced soil.

Limited canopy management is practiced on the vines with no de-leafing, the removal of lateral growth and a green harvest at 80% varaison. The vines yield 10,00 kg/ ha.

The grapes were handpicked on the estate during the second week of April and gently destemmed.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Merlot

VINIFICATION
The grapes underwent a cold maceration for 5 days before being inoculated with natural yeast and then fermented in stainless steel tanks at 26ºC. The free run juice only was used.

The wine was then aged in stainless steel tanks before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

TASTING NOTE
The wine has an intense cherry red in colour with an explosive nose, showing a mixture of morello cherry, strawberry
with leather and smoke.

On the palate the wine offers a supple and well bodied structure with soft yet persistent tannins to provide a long life to this wine. A perfect pairing with any grilled meat.
