VETUS TORO 2004 VETUS TORO 2004

The Torro DO is located in the area of Morales de Toro and this estate is a new project by the owners of Izadi. This is a "powerhouse" wine, showing the depth of fruit and complexity that can be achieved in the hotter parts of Spain with careful winemaking. This wine is already achieving 90+ scores from the American critics.!

VINEYARD
The vineyards cover 8 hectares of south-facing sites, with sandy and clay soils.

The climate is continental, with long, hot and often very dry summers and quite cold winters. Temperatures may drop to -10°C in winter, and rainfall varies between 30mm in the north of the region and 400mm in the South.

Frost is also a danger between October and the first week of May and vineyards located in the flattest area are liable to be hit by strong winds.

GRAPE VARIETIES
90% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon

VINIFICATION
The grapes were handpicked in September. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and lasted 28 days, during which frequent gentle pumping over of the must takes place to extract ripe tannins and good colour. After 12 months in new oak, of which 50% was American and the other half French, the final blend was assembled.

TASTING NOTE
Deep, bright garnet in colour, it has intense, red berry fruit on the nose with toasty, smoky perfumes from the oak. Excellent structure on the palate, with ripe, blackberry and cassis characters, robust, warm tannins and a long finish.
