TIN POT HUT HAWKES BAY SYRAH 2007 TIN POT HUT HAWKES BAY SYRAH 2007

Tinpot Hut's Winemaker Fiona Turner has worked on many of the most successful wines made in New Zealand. This Hawkes Bay wine is a great example of the style becoming typical of the region, offering rich black fruits, a balancing acidity and a lovely spicy, peppery finish.

VINEYARD
Sourced from two separate vineyards in Hawkes Bay, the first in the sub-region of Bridge Pa and the second in the sub region of Dartmoor from some of the oldest Syrah vines planted in New Zealand.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Syrah

VINIFICATION
Each parcel of fruit was carefully monitored during the long ripening period so that it could be harvested at optimum maturity in cool conditions. The grapes were de-stemmed into small open top fermenters where the fruit was allowed to cold soak for a period of 5 days prior to fermentation with selected yeasts. During fermentation, it was hand plunged 3 times daily.

Following the completion of fermentation the wine was pressed to stainless steel tanks for 24 hours prior to racking off gross solids to a mixture of small stainless ageing tanks and new and used French oak. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak and was followed by 6 months ageing prior to blending, stabilising and bottling.

TASTING NOTE
A ruby red wine with violet highlights. On the nose there are aromas of white and black pepper, red and black berry fruits and a subtle chocolate and leather spiciness. On the palate the wine is plummy, with pepper and cinnamon notes. It has a firm acid backbone with silky tannins and lots of ripe fruit on the finish.
