TIEFENBRUNNER SAUVIGNON BLANC "KIRCHLEITEN" 2009

Sauvignon Blanc can do really well in Italy, especially if it's grown at some altitude and this wine, from Alto Adige make a perfect example. Showing all the classic Sauvignon characteristics with a lovely, minerally backbone, this wine would make a perfect partner to all sorts of seafood and vegetable dishes.

VINEYARD
The Sauvignon grapes for this wine were sourced from Vineyards in the Südtirol - Alto Adige / DOC. Specifically vineyards in Kurtatsch (400 - 700 m) and Völser Aicha.

The Kurtatsch vineyard has chalk gravely moraine soil and the soils are sandy loam in Völser Aicha.

The 25 year old vines are trained as Guyot, planted at a density of 7,500 vines / hectare. Yields are 65hl/ ha

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Sauvignon Blanc

VINIFICATION
The grapes undergo a brief maceration of 4 - 6 hours before being fermented in stainless steel tanks at between 20 - 21°C.

After fermentation, the wine spends 5 months on the fine lees in tank before being bottled.

TASTING NOTE
Brilliant yellow with green reflections, this wine shows an impressively broad and distinctive bouquet of nettles, elderberries, green peppers, sage and mint. A mineraly, elegant wine, it is nicely salty on the tongue with a juicy finish.

It would be an especially good accompaniment to asparagus, it pairs quite well with seafood, poultry, pork or veal dishes.
