Tamar Ridge hail from the cool climate of Tazmainia. VINEYARD
Keyena is a 137ha vineyard planted on gentle northerly and north easterly undulating slopes, with some steeper westerly slopes at the eastern end of the vineyard.
Primarily the vineyard is planted on duplex soils with a yellow to grey clay subsoil and topsoils varying from coarse quartz sand, through loamy sand to heavier ironstone clay loams. The vineyards are at an elevation of 10m to 30m.
A variety of clones has been planted throughout the vineyard, with each block - and on occasion rows - managed individually to maximise fruit quality from the specific site. All vines are hand-pruned and much of the harvest carried out by hand. The Pinot Noir are all grown on Scott Henry trellising which is favoured for its split-canopy design which allows maximum fruit exposure to the sun and hence even ripening.
2006 vintage conditions were fine, warm and sunny. This resulted in fruit harvested in excellent condition with good ripeness and pristine varietal fruit characters.

100% Pinot Noir
VINIFICATION
Fruit was de-stemmed and left to macerate for several days prior to ferment. Fermentation then took place in open fermenters with regular plunging.
Once dry, the ferment was pressed off to barrel using a basket press. Malolactic fermentation and maturation took place over 12 months in a combination of new to 3 year old French oak
barriques
.
TASTING NOTE
The wine is dark crimson red with purple tints. It has a bright strawberry and mulberry nose with hints of black cherry. Subtle spicy oak gives another layer of complexity.
The palate provides a sumptuous style of Pinot with ripe up-front fruit flavours of cherry and strawberries. This intensity of ripe fruit gives round mouth-filling flavours leading to a long gentle finish with supple, silky tannins and excellent length and persistence.
