Specialist Wine Tasting Events

These events are targeted at the educated and experienced audience. They assume participants have a reasonable to advanced level of wine knowledge and a well-developed analytical tasting technique. These events are more appropriate for a wine appreciation rather than a celebration event.

The event list provides examples of event formats and is intended as a guide to the type of events that could be run. The details of each event can be tailored to suit your personal requirements.

Every event is specific to each client and hence the price per head is indicative. The overall price of the event is also influenced by the number of participants. We will agree a budget with you as we understand more about your requirements. Please note that it is possible to run events for less than 10 participants, but the pricing structure has a floor limit of 10 participants, as a minimum.

All indicative prices include VAT at 17.5%.

We will work with you to understand what you want to achieve from the event and what balance you want between education, fun and practical skills (i.e. wine tasting). For most events, the focus is on fun and practical skills.

Each event is designed to last between 1½ to 2 hours, with the tasting of approximately 8 samples, but we can flex that up or down according to your requirements.

Event A1 - Influence of Wine Making Technique on Wine Styles

How do the techniques that a wine maker uses influence the style of wine in the bottle?
Through tasting different wines we compare, for example:

  • wines vinified in inert vessels with those vinified in wooden barrels;

  • wines that have been filtered against unfiltered wines; and

  • those matured using oak chips with those matured in a barrel.

  • This event can be run for between 10 and 20 participants and an indicative price would be £25 to £40 per head.

Event A2 - The Influence of Climate on Wine Styles

How does the climate affect the style of the wine in the bottle?

Through this event, we explore and taste wines made in cool, warm, hot, continental and maritime climates. We discuss the influence of climate on the taste of the wine and consider if global warming going to rewrite the traditional rules?

This event can be run for between 10 and 20 participants and an indicative price would be £25 to £35 per head.

This event can be run for between 10 and 20 participants and an indicative price would be £30 to £50 per head.

Event A4 - Prestige Vertical Tasting

By selecting prestige wine, we will progress through a tutored tasting of a vertical flight of between 3 and 6 vintages (depending on the availability of the wine) and explore the effects of vintage variation and bottle age on the wines.

This event can be run for a maximum of 10 participants and the wine choice will be dependent on the availability of suitable vintages. Please contact West Mount Wine for more details.
