| Green and Refreshing Sauvignon BlancFor classic, zingy Sauvignon Blanc, we have number of examples that demonstrate the true New Zealand Style.
First amongst (not quite) equals would be probably the most sought after wine West Mount Wine stocks Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007 . This wine really embodies and some would argue invented the Marlborough style, showing all the gooseberry fruit and zing one should expect from this style of wine.
As great alternatives, both the Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2006 and Tin Pot Hut Sauvignon Blanc 2007 demonstrate many of the characteristics of Cloudy Bay, but without the significant price tag. Both are well worth trying.
The Shaw & Smith Sauvignon Blanc 2007 is not as extreme as some of the New Zealand examples, but it is still firmly in the fresh and sappy style.
From France, a great value option would be VdP du Jardin de La France Sauvignon Blanc 2006 - Vignerons de Valençay , which offers the zingy style for a great price.
Two alternatives come from Chile, but again offer great value: Calbuco Sauvignon Blanc 2006 and Viña Leyda Guruma Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2006
| Oaked Sauvignon BlancIt's a bit of a giveaway on which style we at West Mount Wine prefer, as currently we don't have an example of the blended style of Sauvignon Blanc in our catalogue!
However, as a guide to the styles of wine that can be found, please see some examples below:
Cloudy Bay produce an oaked variety of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine, known as Te Koko is in a very different style to the "standard" wine. It is well worth seeking out.
Many of the great Châteaux of Bordeaux produce a white wine, most notably Château Margaux with their Pavillion Blanc , Château Haut-Brion and Château Smith-Haut-Lafite. Some of these wines are expensive and more modest examples can be found from all over Bordeaux.
We're working on addressing this imbalance in our portfolio, but we only list wines we believe represent great value and that we'd be happy to recommend. Often this is not the case in Bordeaux and we're still searching for the right examples.
| Sweet Sauvignon BlancPretty much all the sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac will contain a proportion of Sauvignon Blanc, but this is likely to vary significantly between Châteaux.
Of course Chateau d'Yquem is the ultimate expression of sweet wine and many of the other wines from this region are (understandably) expensive. However, more modest examples can be found and are well worth seeking out as this is such a distinct and unique style of wine.
Sweet wines from Sauvignon Blanc can also be found in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and can often be very good, but are sometimes variable in quality.
