He found a grower who had planted some in the Adelaide Hills and set about making a top quality Australian version. The wine is scented and elegant with lovely depth and structure on the palate - just as it should be. ONLY AVAILABLE IN AN UNSLPLIT CASE OF SIX VINEYARD This vineyard in Gumeracha belongs to a grower in Adelaide Hills who planted the new clones of Nebbiolo. The site is such that the grapes were able to hang and 'experience' the first cold weather in Autumn, a factor that is key to the production of top Nebbiolo. The grapes were handpicked on 16th April 2006. GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Nebbiolo VINIFICATION Fermentation took place in concrete, 7 tonne open top fermenters and maceration on the skins lasted 18 days during which time the maximum temperature reached was 28°C. The wine was aged in five and six year old French oak puncheons, with no new oak. This vintage was aged an extra 10 months in comparison with the 2005 to allow the characteristic Nebbiolo tannins to soften. TASTING NOTE Good depth of colour and an alluring nose, with perfumes of maraschino cherries, red toffee apple and rose hips. On the palate the longer ageing has softened the tannins, giving a more savour profile with hints of leather and woodsmoke. The texture is fine and silky with a long finish.
