RIDGEVIEW FITZROVIA 2007
Fitzrovia is Ridgeview's sparkling rosé wine, made again from a traditional Champagne varieties in the traditional method. Interestingly, there is still a high proportion of Chardonnay, which bring finesse and complexity to the blend. A top quality, sparkling English fizz.
VINEYARD
The Estate planted in 1994 some 20,000 vines on 16 acres. With advice from Epernay 13 French clones of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier on three different rootstocks were selected.
In 2005 the estate planted a further 8,000 vines on adjacent land to the south of our site.
In addition to their own plantings, dedicated clients are planting for Ridgeview which will increase production three fold in the next 4 years.
The RidgeView Estate is placed on a low ridge of paludina limestone, on top of a sandstone bed. Sloping southwards towards the South Downs and just seven miles from the sea, the winters are mild. The high hills to the south create a rain shadow keeping the micro climate comparatively dry and positively hot in the summer.
GRAPE VARIETIES
46% Chardonnay, 32% Pinot Noir and 22% Pinot Meunier.
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand picked followed by whole bunch pressing conducted with respect to the must separation as stipulated by and within the CIVC permitted limits.
Alcoholic fermentation with yeast specially prepared by Institute nologique de Champagne. 100% malolactic fermentation.
The wine received a
dosage
of 9.5g/l
8 months maturation in cuve before being released 24 months post harvest.
TASTING NOTE
A light salmon colour. Chardonnay dominance brings freshness and finesse, whilst the pinots add the flavours of summer fruits.
