CÔTES DU RHÔNE
Terre de Galets
2007 DOMAINE RICHAUD
This wine comes from a relatively new winery and the wines are hugely popular in France, selling out almost immediately after release. It has good depth on the nose and palate and show gorgeous dark berry fruit and good length.
VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine were harvested from the
Les Garrigues
,
Paligot
and
Beauchières
Vineyards located in the large plain of the southern Côtes du Rhone, with soil of shingle and red clay. The area borders on Vacqueras and Gigondas in the south, and Cairanne and Rasteau in the north. The vines are between 10-40 years old.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Mouvèdre
VINIFICATION
Grapes for
Terre de Galets
were hand harvested and partially de-stalked and lightly pressed. Some of the parcels were pressed by foot. Fermentation lasted approximately 8 days, using wild yeasts. Temperatures were allowed to reach up to 32°C for a day and a half. SO2 is kept to a minimum.
TASTING NOTE
Deep coloured, with a violet rim, the 2007
Terre de Galets
is intensely perfumed, with aromas of blackberries and dark plums, together with liquorice on the nose. Full-bodied, with good structure supporting the ripe, dark fruit and supple tannins.
