QUNITA DE LA ROSA FINEST RESERVE PORT NV

This wine is Rosa's "basic" ruby port, but even then, it was given 92 points by Robert Parker who noted "... this is a stunning example of what can be achieved and found in non-vintage blends...". Enough said.

VINEYARD
La Rosa is a family-owned and run Quinta near Pinhão - a prime Port-producing area in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro in northern Portugal. La Rosa has always produced fantastic Ports.

Broadly the Douro region is formed of schistous rock and it produces the unique characteristics of Port wine. Generally, the vines are trained double guyot on the terraces but cordon unilateral (or single guyot) for 'vinha ao alto'. All the vines are grafted onto American rootstock.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

VINIFICATION
The Finest Reserve Port is made every year in the traditional method, trodden in granite lagres from the grapes grown at the quinta. The wine is then blended from Rosa's stocks of Port to ensure a consistent quality.

Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle. The average age of the Port in the Finest Reserve is 6 - 7 years.

TASTING NOTE
This is a vintage character style (ruby) port of great quality and complexity. It shows a deep ruby colour with plenty of forward fruit, a full body and a long, dry finish.
