QUNITA DE LA ROSA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT 2006 QUNITA DE LA ROSA LATE BOTTLED VINTAGE PORT 2006

Funky new packaging, same fantastic, unfiltered LBV Port. LBV port is bottled two to four years after Vintage Port to provide a top flight port which may be drunk earlier. Quinta de la Rosa's 2006 LBV, bottled in April 2010, is well structured and rich. It is a 'traditional' LBV which has been bottled straight from the tonel without filtering or fining. It may throw a sediment and if so can be decanted

VINEYARD
La Rosa is a family-owned and run Quinta near Pinhão - a prime Port-producing area in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro in northern Portugal. La Rosa has always produced fantastic Ports.

Broadly the Douro region is formed of schistous rock and it produces the unique characteristics of Port wine. Generally, the vines are trained double guyot on the terraces but cordon unilateral (or single guyot) for 'vinha ao alto'. All the vines are grafted onto American rootstock.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz from La Rosa's A graded vineyards.

VINIFICATION
2006 was a cooler than 2005 with more rain than we have had for some years especially at the end of August and start of September. With the rain came hot temperatures that provoked a sudden ripening of the grape particularly noticeable on the lower as well as the more exposed slopes.

By the middle of September temperatures dropped to help normalize the situation.

The wines from 2006 have less concentration than previous years so should be drunk a little younger.

The LBV 2006 port is made in the traditional manner trodden in granite lagares from grapes grown at Quinta de la Rosa. Some of the best port from that year is then kept back to make into our LBV.

The wine was then matured in large wooden casks called "tonels" in Rosa's own lodge for 4-6 years until ready for bottling, The 2006 LBV was bottled in April 2010. Unlike most port shippers, all products are stored and bottled in the Douro (at La Rosa and not Porto), allowing full traceability and ensuring quality from grape to bottle.

TASTING NOTE
This LBV has a good, clean definition similar in style to other La Rosa ports with rounded tannins and soft wood undertones. In the bottle, this port shows the harmony and equilibrium present in the La Rosa vineyards. La Rosa ports are always slightly drier than most, with the brandy well integrated and a balance in the extraction. 2006 has produced an LBV that is a more subtle and slighly less rich than normal but with good structure and length.
