QUNITA DE LA ROSA TONEL NO. 12 10 YEAR OLD TAWNY PORT

This wine is a ten year old tawny port and displays all the rich dried fruit character one would expect to see in this style of wine. The Tonel No. 12 refers to the barrel where the ten year old tawny is kept at the port lodge. Serve this wine as an aperitif or to accompany good cheese.

VINEYARD
La Rosa is a family-owned and run Quinta near Pinhão - a prime Port-producing area in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro in northern Portugal. La Rosa has always produced fantastic Ports.

Broadly the Douro region is formed of schistous rock and it produces the unique characteristics of Port wine. Generally, the vines are trained double guyot on the terraces but cordon unilateral (or single guyot) for 'vinha ao alto'. All the vines are grafted onto American rootstock.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

VINIFICATION
The Finest Reserve Port is made every year in the traditional method, trodden in granite lagres from the grapes grown at the quinta. The wine is then blended from Rosa's stocks of Port to ensure a consistent quality.

The port is stored in small (550l) oak casks or "pipes" and it is from this selection that Tonel 12 is blended. The wine is blended on a regular basis.

TASTING NOTE
This is a rich and elegant blend with wonderful aromas exuding the heat of the Douro. On the palate it is complex with powerful dried fruit, figs, honey and almonds with a long and pleasing finish.
