DOMAINE DU POUJOL ROSÉ 2006 DOMAINE DU POUJOL ROSÉ 2006

The Domaine du Poujol is situated to the North West of Montpellier in the South of France. This Vin de Pays wine is an attractive pink and is a fragrant and sappy rosé, showing lovely red fruit character and a refreshing bone dry palate.

VINEYARD
The south-facing hillside vineyards have a variety of soil types, but are predominantly limestone-based, with a higher than usual magnesium content which helps retain freshness in the wines. The microclimate at the domaine is cooler than average for the Languedoc and benefits from mitigating breezes from the Cevennes. Winters are mild with adequate rainfall.

Grapes for the Rosé are grown in nine different south-facing hillside parcels, ranging from 10-200m above sea level.

GRAPE VARIETIES
33% Grenache, 33% Carignan, 28% Cinsault, 6% Syrah

VINIFICATION
These grapes were grown specifically for the rosé. Some had several hours skin contact before pressing whereas others were direct pressed. 12% of the musts were inoculated with yeast and barrel-fermented to give some weight and greater structure to the wine. The remaining must was fermented at relatively low temperatures in tank with wild yeasts. The final blend took place in November 2006 and was bottled in February 2007.

TASTING NOTE
Striking pink in colour, with perfumes of strawberries and the characteristic rose petal aromas of good Grenache. Vibrant, juicy fruit on the palate and a clean, fresh acidity prevent it becoming cloying and accentuate the hint of cherries on the finish.
