DOMAINE DU POUJOL PICO 2006 DOMAINE DU POUJOL PICO 2006

The Domaine du Poujol is situated to the North West of Montpellier in the South of France. This Vin de Pays wine is an unoaked blend of Vermentino and Carignan blanc and offers crisp floral nose and a attractive citrusy palate

VINEYARD
The Carignan Blanc is from a single hillside block of vines planted in 1961 on well-drained limestone 'cailloutis', which is very fragmented soil. The Vermentino is called 'Rolle' in this area and was grafted by in 1995 onto Carignan Noir vines in a cool river-terrace block, with rocky, limestone soils. The microclimate at the domaine is cooler than average for the Languedoc and benefits from mitigating breezes from the Cevennes. Winters are mild with adequate rainfall.

GRAPE VARIETIES
50% Vermentino, 50% Carignan Blanc

VINIFICATION
The grapes are hand-harvested and whole-cluster pressed. The free-run juice is cool tank fermented to preserve the fruit character and malolactic fermentation is blocked to allow for a fresher character in the wine. After the final blend is established, the wine is lightly filtered and bottled unfined.

TASTING NOTE
Light golden yellow in colour, it is clean and fresh on the nose. The Vermentino adds a flowery perfume with a touch of lime and the Carignan Blanc rounds out the palate, adding body and weight. Lovely and fresh right to the finish.
