DOMAINE PFISTER PINOT GRIS 'TRADITION' 2005
The Pfister estate covers 10 hectares of vineyard spread across 40 different parcels, primarily in Dahlenheim, in the northern part of Alsace, about 20km west of Strasbourg. The Pinot Gris is young and perfumed with a slight smokiness. It is medium to full-bodied with a lovely peachy texture and balancing acidity on the finish.
VINEYARD
The vineyards are planted with 26% Riesling, 24% Gewürtztraminer and 18% Pinot Gris. Grapes for this wine are grown in two different vineyards. Osthoffen is a hillside vineyard, with deep, rich, marly soils planted on a steep, west-facing slope. The Lehe vineyard is planted on a limestone base covered by a deep loessal layer with a clay/loam texture. It is a gently sloping, north-east facing vineyard. The average age of both vineyards is 16 years.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Gris
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand picked on September 26th and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine was then aged on fine lees until bottling eleven months later
TASTING NOTE
Light, bright with greenish tints, the 2005 Pinot Gris is youthful and perfumed, with notes of quince and woodsmoke. On the palate it is relatively full-bodied, with good structure, attractive peachy texture and a clean, fresh finish.
