PEREGRINE PINOT NOIR 2008 PEREGRINE PINOT NOIR 2008

From Central Otago in the south of the South Island , the Peregrine Pinot Noir is a sensational black-cherry flavoured pinot with discreet spice notes and velvety ripe tannins. Currently rated as one of the best New Zealand Pinots.

VINEYARD
Peregrine Wines is located in the Gibbston region of Central Otago - just an easy 20 minute drive from Queenstown, deep in the heart of the South Island of New Zealand. Snow capped mountains dominate the landscape for at least 8 months of the year, with vineyards in the valleys below - a continental climate giving the area hot and dry summers with cool nights.

The fruit for this wine came from the Cromwell basin (80%) and the Gibbston Valley (20%)

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Noir

VINIFICATION
The fruit was hand harvested and destemmed to open top fermenters. The fruit was given a 2-6 day cold maceration prior to warm fermentation. The fermented fruit then had an extended post fermentation maceration to help with tannin extraction and integration. The average time on skins was approximately three weeks.

The resulting wine was pressed to French oak barrels (35% new) where it spent 10 months. The wine will be racked from barrel and lightly filtered before being bottled.

TASTING NOTE
The 2006 Peregrine Pinot Noir has great depth of colour. The nose has an intense perfume of mocha, candy, dark fruits along with charry oak. The palate is rich and dense with plums, spice and silky tannin. The finish is enticing and long.
