OMRAH CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2004
This wine is from the Plantagenet winery in the Mt. Barker area of Western Australia. They are currently winning lots of awards for the quality of their wines. This wine is a very well balanced (a trademark of the winery), without being over-concentrated. Showing lovely perfumes of blackcurrants and raspberries and a structured palate, this is a very attractive wine.
VINEYARD
The Plantagenet winery is located in the Mount Barker township, a sub-district of the Great Southern region in Western Australia.
This is a cool-climate area, which means the grapes ripen slowly thereby encouraging the build up of perfume and flavours in the grapes.
The 2004 vintage experienced near perfect conditions, with a long, slow, dry ripening period.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Cabernet Sauvignon
VINIFICATION
Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. It then aged in French and American oak of which 10% was new and 90% was two years old. The wine remained in oak for 12 months.
TASTING NOTE
Deep purple red in colour, this vintage has perfumes of blackcurrants and raspberries, overlaid with spicy, well-integrated oak. On the palate it is medium-bodied, with the emphasis on a fresh, youthful character. Attractive fruit flavours and a smooth oaky sheen continue to the finish.
