CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2004
We're delighted to announce that we've taken delivery of a small parcel of this outstanding first growth Bordeaux and are able to offer it at one of the cheapest prices in the UK at the moment. This legendary wine will repay extended ageing and should be capable of drinking well until 2040 at least.
VINEYARD
Chateau Mouton Rothschild is located in the north of the Pauillac appellation, opposite Lafite - the vineyards lie on deep gravel beds over large stones, with the subsoil comprising clay, marl and limestone.
The Chateau has 207 acres of vines located in the commune of Pauillac. The vines have an average age of 48 years and are planted at a density of 8500 vines/ ha.
GRAPE VARIETIES
Typically Mouton is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
VINIFICATION
The grapes are hand-picked and rigorous selection is practiced. The wine is then fermented in oak vats for 15 to 25 days. It is then matured in (almost all) new oak casks for 19 to 22 months before being bottled.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has beautiful depth of colour, almost black with a blueish tint.
The nose is complex, with notes of blackberry and redcurrant and a touch of smoke, revealing still discreet oak. The attack is full and generous, while the tannins elegantly enfold flavours of liquorice, mocha and vanilla.
The finish is long and flavoursome, full of freshness and fruit, set off by delicious touches of toast.
This wine will start drinking well by 2015 and should last until 2040 at least.
Per Bottle £149.99
