MARTÍN CÓDAX ALBARIÑO 2010 - RÍAS BAIXAS DO MARTÍN CÓDAX ALBARIÑO 2010 - RÍAS BAIXAS DO

This Martín Códax Albariño takes its name from a 13th century Galician minstrel whose poems evoke the gallant love and passion for the sea. The wine itself is made using very much 21st Century technology and gives an aromatic, crisp and dry style that is perfect with all types of seafood.

VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine are sourced from a co-operative started by 50 growers in 1968. The membership stands at over 550 growers today and the vineyard area stands at c.420 hectares and 1,400 different plots.

The vineyards are primarily situated in the Salnes valley in Galicia in north-eastern Spain. The valley is the coolest, northern part of the Rías Baíxas DO and it benefits from some maritime influence, cooling the night-time temperatures and ensuring a slow maturation period for the grapes.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Albariño

VINIFICATION
The wine is fermented in stainless steel and only 30% of the wine was put through malolatic fermentation in 2008.

No oak aging has been used, leaving a wonderfully fresh and aromatic wine.

TASTING NOTE
Bright, straw-yellow colour with a touch of ripe lemon. Intensely perfumed, with hints of fresh herbs, green apples, citrus fruit and grapefruit. It is long, rounded and full bodied on the palate, with a light petillance that gives the wine a vivacious, fresh finish.
