VIÑA LEYDA SINGLE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005

Viña Leyda are a relatively new producer in Chile and are starting to make some excellent wines - they have recently been rated as one of Oz Clarke's "producers to watch" in his 2008 pocket wine guide. The Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a real step up from the reserva wines and represents great value.

VINEYARD
This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from El Belloto vineyard located in San Bernardo, in the upper part of Maipo Valley, world famous for its perfect climate conditions for red wines. Alluvial soils, low yields and a controlled irrigation deficit during ripening, together with specific characteristics the Maipo Valley’s terroir, supply excellent quality grapes, necessary to achieve a full and concentrated wine.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Cabernet Sauvignon

VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand harvested during the third week of April at 24º brix. After a gentle crushing, the grapes and juice were chilled to 10ªC and remain for 4 days under anaerobic conditions before selected yeast inoculation. Fermentation occurred at 28-29 ªC for 7 days with a pumping over regime of 3-4 times per day.The wine was left on its lees and skins for an additional 10 days in order to obtain more structure. After malolactic fermentation the wine was racked into French oak barrels and aged for 12 months.

TASTING NOTE
Refined nose with a strong Maipo Valley character. Restrained and complex with red berries, cassis, leather and tobacco. Subtle notes of oak, perfectly integrated with the fruit. Medium body with a great concentration of flavours, a bright acidity and velvety tannins
