CANTINE LEONARDO CHIANTI RISERVA 2005 CANTINE LEONARDO CHIANTI RISERVA 2005

This Chianti riserva comes from a high quality Co-operative in Tuscany. Offering a classic Chianti nose of black cherries and spice, along with sweet red fruits on the palate along with balancing tanning and acidity, this is a perfect food wine. It won a silver medal at the 2007 International Wine Challenge.

VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine are grown in a small, hilly area in the commune of Vinci, Cerreto Guidi and a limited number of surrounding communes. The grape growers belong to the Cantine Leonardo da Vinci in Vinci, close to Florence.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Sangiovese

VINIFICATION
2004 was a good vintage, with the harvest starting in the last week of September and finishing on the 25th October. The grapes were picked in good condition, with better than expected sugar and acidity levels. Maceration on the skins lasted 8-10 days and was followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature of 27/28°C. After racking, the wine was allowed to complete malolactic fermentation. It was subsequently aged in French oak casks for 12 months followed by a further 3 months in bottle before release.

TASTING NOTE
Bright ruby red in colour, this Chianti Riserva has good intensity on the nose, with characteristic black cherries and spicy cinnamon and strawberry fruit flavours on the palate. It is full-bodied, with an attractive but supple backbone of soft tannins supporting ripe, mature fruit. Good length, with spicy perfumes on the finish.

Per Bottle £10.99
