PINOT GRIGIO 2006 - ALOIS LAGEDER
This wine is really not like the £3.99 Pinot Grigio you get down the supermarket - this really demonstrates what the grape can do when it's in the right hands - and from this example, you'll realise that Alois Legeder is very much the right hands...
VINEYARD
The vineyards are located in Magrè and Salorno at 230 - 350 metres altitude (750- 1150 feet) of the Alto Adige region of North-Eastern Italy. The vineyards benefit from sandy and gravely soil with a high content of limestone. There is a quite warm mesoclimate with large variations between day and night temperatures.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Grigio
VINIFICATION
The grapes are gently crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation on the fine lees for 4 months.
TASTING NOTE
A top-class Pinot Grigio that shames many inferior versions with bags of fresh peach, lemon zest and pear fruit on the nose, with a subtle fint of fresh flowers too. The palate is quite richly textured with more pear and citrus fruit and a hint of spice on the long, refreshing finish.
