LA GIUSTINIANA GAVI DI GAVI
'Vigneti Montessora'
2010
Gavi di Gavi is a hugely fashionable wine from North West Italy. Generally, it is a simple wine, but the
'Vigneti Montessora'
really does show what great Gavi is all about!. Clean, rich, intense with a beautiful perfume, this is as good as it gets
VINEYARD
Grapes are grown in the Montessora vineyards in Rovereto di Gavi, where they are guyot trained at a density of 4000 vines/ha. Soils are mostly gravel with alluvial clay. The grapes are hand harvested in the last week of September, with yields of 30hl/ha.

100% Cortese
VINIFICATION
The plentiful snow during the winter led to a wet and dreary spring. The rain continued into early summer, but August and September were dry and sunny. In September, there was a notable difference between day and night temperatures, on occasion up to 25 degrees of variation. This helped to retain acidity and perfumes in the grapes. The harvest started at La Giustiniana on the 9th September and finished on the 10th October. Yields were normal, up on 2009, which was 25% down on average.
The wines are similar to those of 2006,. says Enrico Tomalino of La Giustiniana. They are more perfumed with higher acid and less weight than the 2009s.
The grapes are gently pressed, then cool fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Unoaked, the wine is bottled in the spring following the harvest.
TASTING NOTE
Light straw in colour with a fresh, open perfume with notes of flint and flowers. On the palate it is intense and concentrated, restrained and with a lovely pure fruit character, with flavours of peach and lime which follow through to the long, minerally finish.
