JAFFELIN 1er CRU LES DURESSES 2004
This wine is pretty much a classic Cote de Beaune red, with good attractive strawberry and cherry fruit and some spice on the palate. As the wine starts to age, it is beginning to show some signs of classic vegital notes that you would expect from aged Burgundy.
VINEYARD
The vines are 55 years old and are located in the best terroir in Auxey, on the Cotes de Beaune in Burgundy. They were planted based on a visual selection of the most robust vines.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Noir
VINIFICATION
The vines were harvested on 25 September in 20 kg grape crates.
Vinification took place in the Chapitre winery in open wood vats for 20 days with punching of the cap only at the beginning of maceration. A vertical press was used for de-vatting, then 12 hours after pressing, the extracted wine was transferred directly into barrels using gravity.
The wine matured for 11 months in oak barrels from the centre of France (1/3 new oak). The wine was racked once just before bottling. It was neither fined nor filtered.
TASTING NOTES
The 2004 vintage is well-balanced and fresh with gorgeous fruit and no harshness on the palate. The use of oak heightens this wines complexity by adding a touch of undergrowth. Nice, rich mouthfeel with good aromatic length.
