JABOULET CROZES HERMITAGE ROUGE DOMAINE DE THALABERT 2005
Jaboulet is undergoing something of a renaissance of late with the significant changes their new owners are making. Their effects are evident already in the quality of this wine which is showing an intense and spicy nose along with a powerful and concentrated palate
VINEYARD
Domaine de Thalabert has been in the Jaboulet family since 1834. It is the oldest vineyard in the Crozes appellation and is situated on a stony plain of glacial origin. It covers 40 hectares of vines which are 40-60 years old, with yields of 40 hl/ha.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Syrah
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand-picked into ventilated 20kg crates and were sorted by hand, destemmed and crushed on arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and was followed by a long maceration lasting 3-4 weeks. The wine was aged for 12-15 months in oak casks.
TASTING NOTE
Intensely coloured, deep cherry red with purple lights, the 2005 Domaine Thalabert is intense and restrained on the nose, with perfumes of dark cherries and spicy notes. On the palate it is powerful, with ripe, structured tannins and the concentration characteristic of this low yielding vintage.
