PAUL JABOULET CROZES HERMITAGE
MULE BLANCHE
2005
The Jaboulet renaissance is evident in the quality of this white single vineyard Crozes-Hermitage. Showing all the delicate floral aromas one would expect from this wine, it has a full, rich and spicy palate and the potential to last for many years and develop into a complex and intriguing wine.
VINEYARD
This is a single vineyard wine from the
Mule Blanche
vineyard which covers 7 hectares on a glacio-fluvial alluvium plain. The vines are 40-60 years old and produce yields of 40 hl/ha.
The name
Mule Blanche
originates from pre-mechanisation times when mules were used to work the vineyards.
GRAPE VARIETIES
50% Marsanne, 50% Roussanne
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand picked into ventilated 20kg crates. After de-stalking, the grapes are cold-pressed to retain freshness. Fermentation took place in large oak casks. The wine remained in oak on the fine lees with some batonage for a further 6-9 months.
TASTING NOTE
Pale yellow in colour, Mule Blanche has a delicate, aromatic nose, with perfumes of white flowers, hawthorn and acacia. On the palate it is rich and spicy but well-balanced. Good length with an attractive fresh finish.
