GIOVANNI ALLEGRINI RECIOTO CLASSICO 2005 Recioto is similar to Amarone in that it is made by drying grapes on straw mats to concentrate the sugars and flavours. The difference comes when the wine is fermented; recioto is a sweet wine showing attractive cherry, dark fruits and some spice. Very different and an excellent example. PODERI ALDO CONTERNO BAROLO 2004 Aldo Conterno is one of the finest producers of Barolo. This was a great year in Piemonte and it breaks the "drought" of 2002 and 2003 as the family declassified the grapes due to poor vintages. 2004 however is a superb year, with fine balance with perfect depth and structure and all the perfume you would expect from a great Barolo.
