CAVE DE HUNAWIHR RIESLING 2005
Hunawihr is a small co-operative in the heart of Alsace, making wines with quality and value in mind. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by the
Revue de Vins de France
in 2005. Riesling is very different in Alsace than it is in Germany, making a much drier style and this is shown here with a nice lime peel nose and robust acidity with a distinct mineral finish.
VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards running along the south and south-east facing Hunawihr hillside slopes at an altitude of 250- 320 m above sea level. They cover an area of 32 hectares, with calcareous clay soils. Yields are 80 hl/ha and the average age of the vines is 25 years old.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Riesling
VINIFICATION
This Riesling is a blend of wines produced from various parts of the vineyards, blended in July 2006. Temperature controlled fermentation took place between 16-18°C for 3 weeks and was followed by 3 to 4 months in stainless steel tanks before filtration. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The wine was bottled on 27th August 2007.
TASTING NOTE
Light yellow in colour, with lemony lights, this is a clean, perfumed Riesling, with hints of lime on the nose which give way to a crisp mineral palate, with juicy lemon lime flavours. The finish is long and fresh with a hint of minerality.
