CAVE DE HUNAWIHR PINOT BLANC 2006
Hunawihr is a small co-operative in the heart of Alsace, making wines with quality and value in mind. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by the
Revue de Vins de France
in 2005. This wine has a distinct Pinot Blanc varietal character, offering clean, full green fruit, a slight herbiness and a distinct minerality giving the wine wonderful balance.
VINEYARD
Grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards running along the south and south-east facing Hunawihr hillside slopes at an altitude of 250-320 m above sea level. They cover an area of 36 ha, over a calcareous clay soil. Yields are 80 hl/ha and the average age of the vines is 25 years old.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Pinot Blanc
VINIFICATION
This Pinot Blanc is a blend of wines produced in different parts of the vineyard blended in July 2007. Temperature controlled fermentation took place between 16-18°C for 3 weeks followed by 3 to 4 months in stainless steel tanks before filtration. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The wine was bottled on 27th August 2007.
TASTING NOTE
Light and bright in colour, with a clean, peachy nose giving way to a rich but well-balanced palate, with apricot and peach fruit characters tempered by mineral notes. Good length with peachy perfumes on the finish.
