CAVE DE HUNAWIHR GEWÜRZTRAMINER 2005
Hunawihr is a small co-operative in the heart of Alsace, making wines with quality and value in mind. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by the
Revue de Vins de France
in 2005. One of the classical Alsace grapes, this wine gives full, bodied, slightly off-dry tropical fruit flavours and a delicious spiciness on the nose and finish.
VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine are grown in vineyards running along the south and south-east facing Hunawihr hillside slopes at an altitude of 250- 320 m above sea level. They cover an area of 25 hectares, with calcareous clay soils. Yields are 80 hl/ha and the average age of the vines is 25 years old.
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Gewürztraminer
VINIFICATION
This is a blend of Gewürztraminer wines from different parts of the vineyards, assembled in July 2006. The must was fermented in temperature controlled tanks between 16-18°C for 3 weeks followed by 3 to 4 months in stainless steel before filtration. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The wine was bottled on 27th August 2007.
TASTING NOTE
This Gewürztraminer is restrained yet spicy on the nose, with hints of lychees on the palate which is rich yet well balanced. Slightly off dry, it has fresh, cleansing acidity on the finish.
