LOPEZ HEREDIA VIÑA BOSCONIA RESERVA 1999
Very much in the traditional style of wood aged Rioja, the Bosconia produces a riper, fleshier style of wine than the more structured Tondonia. Less ageing in wood leads to a softer style and a more (but not totally) fruit driven wine.
VINEYARDS
Lopez de Heredia is based in the Rioja Alta region of Rioja, in the town of Haro. All the vineyards are managed and havested by hand.
GRAPE VARIETIES
80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacho. Mazuelo and Graciano make up the remianer
VINIFICATION
Grapes are de-stalked and then the must is fermented in large oak vats of 240 hectolitres capacity using natural yeasts at a maximum temperature of 36 degrees. The cap is frequently punched down.
The wines then go through malolatic and are then racked into oak barriques, where they are aged for three years.
TASTING NOTE
This wine has evolved perfectly showing a deep ruby colour with shades of orange. Its nose is persistent, full bodied and showing a lot of mature fruit, being dominated by the Tempranillo grape. The palate is round, smooth, fresh, full of body and persistent.
