GROSSET WATERVALE RIESLING 2007
Goodness me! Grosset do really produce some great wines. This Watervale Riesling is a classic Clare Valley version and can be considered as one of the world's best exponents of this varietal. The Watervale shows lime and lemon blossom, on the nose with a delicate yet intense, focused limey flavours: lemon citrus and mineral notes.
VINEYARD
Located in the north-eastern corner of the Clare Valley's Watervale sub-region and at its highest point, the Grosset Springvale vineyard has a thin crust of topsoil over a soft limestone base. Dark grey slate and siltstone of the Mintaro Shale at about 750-800 million years old lie under the area.

100% Riesling
VINIFICATION
This is the 26th consecutive year of production of the Grosset Watervale Riesling. Fermentation took place in temperature controlled stainless steel. Each section of vineyard and clone was kept separate resulting in 4 different components for possible inclusion in the final blend. Fermentation was carried out with neutral yeast at relatively high temperatures (15 -18°C). There was no skin contact at all, and only the free-run juice was used. No fining to modify taste is practiced or necessary due to the hand picking and fruit selection at harvest when necessary.
TASTING NOTE
On the nose, lime and lemon blossom. The palate is delicate yet intense with powerful, focused limey flavours with lemon citrus and minerally notes. As usual, the Watervale is tightly structured, has impressive weight, some plumpness, and zippy acidity on a long, fine dry finish.
