GRAHAM BECK BRUT NV

Graham Beck is rightly famous for his sparkling wines and this is one of his finest. Made by the Méthode Cap Classique, i.e. Champagne method, this is the wine that Nelson Mandela used to toast his inauguration as President in 1994. It offers excellent value for money and a true benchmark new world fizz.

VINEYARD
The Chardonnay was selected from the riverside and limestone vineyards with high natural lime in the soils producing 9 tons/ha.

Pinot Noir planted in the loamy clay soils producing 10 tons/ha coming from Beck's coastal Firgrove Vineyards.

Both varietals were handpicked; the Chardonnay at 18-19.5° Baume for fruit and elegance and the Pinot Noir at 18.5-20°Baume for complexity and length of flavour.

54% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir

VINIFICATION
This wine was made by the Méthode Cap Classique, i.e. Champagne method.

The grapes were pressed as whole bunches (as in Champagne) to ensure fractional recovery. After settling of the juice, the two varieties were fermented separately. They were then blended along with reserve wine if necessary, bottled and left for 15 to 18 months yeast contact time before disgorgement.

TASTING NOTES
The wine has a beautiful harmony between lengthy Chardonnay and fragrant Pinot Noir. The result is a sparkling wine with a fine mousse giving freshness and finesse, elegant ripe fruit and light yeast aromas, and a rich creamy complexity on the palate.
