GOATS DO ROAM WHITE 2006
The name is corney and makes eveyone cringe, but the wine is great and will leave a smile on your face for its great flavour and great value! Why not give it a try, you'll be surprised...
VINEYARD
Most of the fruit for Goats do Roam White is sourced from a 300ha farm on the south-west-facing slopes of Paarl Mountain. This is a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl wine district, viticulturally among the most historic and influential areas of the Cape wine lands. Table Mountain can be seen from the winery at the southen tip of the African continent. The rest of the fruit comes from sites in Paarl, Stellenbosch and Piekenierskloof.
GRAPE VARIETIES
28% Chenin Blanc, 20% Crouchen Blanc (also known as Cape Riesling), 19% Semillon, 17% Viognier, 16% Clairette
VINIFICATION
The grapes were hand harvested and then whole bunch pressed. Cold fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks where the wine remained until bottling. This maximizes the freshness and varietal character Charles Back and his winemaking team were looking for.
TASTING NOTE
This vintage is straw coloured, with a rich, tropical fruit nose, with hints of melon and apple combined with an appealing grassiness. Fresh and attractive on the palate, with a clean acidity which comes from the Chenin Blanc.
