GOATS DO ROAM IN VILLAGES WHITE 2006
GDR in Villages is a distinct step up from the "standard" GDR. This wine has more complexity and structure and uses typically Southern Rhone varieties - it is an unusal but delicious wine.
VINEYARD
This blend is unique in South Africa, although typically Southern Rhône in its components. The Viognier grapes were grown in Paarl and Somerset West and the Chenin came from dryland vineyards in Agter-Paarl.
GRAPE VARIETIES
60% Viognier, 33% Chenin Blanc, 4% Chardonnay, 2% Semillon, 1% Weisser Riesling
VINIFICATION
The Viognier was partially barrel fermented and then barrel-matured, with the Chardonnay and Semillon for 4-6 months, in used French oak.
TASTING NOTE
Light yellow in colour, this blend has a fresh, unusual nose. The addition of Chenin Blanc to the Viognier base gives a freshness to the blend and the Riesling adds a subtle perfume. On the palate the wine is perfumed and has good depth of peachy, apricot fruit characters, with a fresh zing from the varieties with higher acidity. Good length and light, refreshing apricot perfumes on the finish.
