GOATS DO ROAM RED 2006
The name is corney and makes eveyone cringe, but the wine is great and will leave a smile on your face for its great flavour and great value! Why not give it a try, you'll be surprised...
VINEYARD
Most of the fruit for Goats do Roam Red is sourced from a 300ha farm on the south-west-facing slopes of Paarl Mountain. This is a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl wine district, viticulturally among the most historic and influential areas of the Cape wine lands. Table Mountain can be seen from the winery at the southen tip of the African continent. The rest of the fruit comes from sites in Paarl, Stellenbosch and Piekenierskloof.
GRAPE VARIETIES
A real hotch-potch, but predominantly Shiraz and Pinotage, with Rhône varietals such as Mourvèdre, Grenache, Merlot, Carignan, Gamay and Cabernet Sauvignon being used to achieve a consistent style across vintages.
VINIFICATION
The grapes were harvested ripe and destalked before being fermented at 25-28°C. The wine was lightly oaked before being carefully blended and bottled.
TASTING NOTE
Vibrant brick red in colour, the 2005 vintage has an attractive perfume of ripe red fruit, with a fragrant lift of liquorice and spice. The fruit follows through to the palate, with smooth, ripe tannins and nicely balanced acidity.
