THE GOATFATHER 2005 THE GOATFATHER 2005

This time a French blend, but with the additional "twist" of adding some classic Italian grapes to give the wine an extra lift. This wine offers a rich, fruity palate with almost Christmas cake like spices along with a fresh and structured finish.

VINEYARD
The vineyard is a 300ha farm on the south-west-facing slopes of Paarl Mountain, a granite rock outcrop in the heart of the Paarl wine district. This vintage comprises grapes from some of the Cape's finest vineyards in the Paarl, Agter-Paarl, Perdeberg and Stellenbosch areas.

GRAPE VARIETIES
Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Barbera and Primitivo

VINIFICATION
After being de-stalked and lightly crushed, the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation the various components aged in 225l barriques for 12 months. The wine was matured in a mix of French and American oak, mainly 2nd to 4th fill, with approximately 10% new wood being used. The wine was blended and lightly filtered once before being
bottled.

TASTING NOTE
The vintage is a deep ruby red in colour, with a nose of cloves, plums and pepper, with hints of ripe red berries. A rich fruit laden palate, with cinnamon and spices. Good integration of oak, showing subtle hazelnuts on the finish.
