They have set out (and succeeded) to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon that is beautifully balanced and drinkable when young, just as it is beautifully balanced and drinkable when old. This wine is a far cry from the over extracted and over alcoholic Napa style. VINEYARD The Winery sits surrounded by 40 acres of organically farmed estate vineyard. Frog's Leap also owns 88 acres and farms 100 additional acres in the Rutherford appellation. All vineyards are organically and dry farmed. The grapes are picked at a level of "natural" ripeness to ensure the "terrior" shines through. GRAPE VARIETIES The grapes are de-stemmered and crushed before being fermented in the "famous" Frog's Leap square fermentation tanks using natural yeast. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak barrels before being bottled unfiltered. TASTING NOTE The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a richly fragrant nose of luscious black fruit and fresh herbs. The palate has intense flavours of cassis, ripe plum and black currants with hints of cedar and tobacco. The wine's velvety tannins are well integrated with fine acidity to create an enduring finish.
