VIÑA FALERNIA CARMENÈRE 2005 VIÑA FALERNIA CARMENÈRE 2005

Viña Falernia has the distinction of being Chile's most northerly winery, around 300 miles North of Santiago. A great source of good value wine, this wine is made from Carmenere, a grape that Chile is making it's own. This is a beautifully rich and complex, but fruity wine.

VINEYARDS
Viña Falernia is located in the Elqui Valley between La Serena and Vicuña, 520 km to the north of Santiago and it is at present Chile’s northernmost wine estate. Viña Falernia comprises around 320 hectares of vineyard (800 acres), plus 100 hectares (250 acres) with long term contracts.
The fact that there is no risk of phylloxera infestation means that vines need not be grafted onto American rootstocks, as is necessary in most others parts of the world. The trellising system is Guyot or double Guyot, whereby the two lateral shoots are pruned to leave 6-8 buds each. Vines are planted at a distance of one metre, with two metres between the rows, giving a density of 5000 vines per hectare.
