VINEYARD
The grapes for this wine were grown in the El Triangulo, Los Perales, EMV and other vineyards in the Cassablanca Valley. The vineyard is comprised mainlyof bench land and hillside associated soils with good drainage that maximizes potential for controlling plant growth.
The climate is cool, with costal influences and between 450mm of rainfall per annum.
The vines are un-grafted, between 10 and 15 years old and are trained on a vertical trellising system. They benefit from drip irrigation and are planted at a density of 3,300-5,550 plants/ha
GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Chardonnay
VINIFICATION
The grapes were picked by both hand (65%) and mechanically (35%) between March and April 2008 at a yield of 10-12 tonnes/ha.
The grapes were then partially destemmed and pressed before70% was fermented in stainless steel for 14 to 17 days at 15°C and 30% was barrel fermented .
10% of the wine then underwent malolactic fermentation before agining in 10% New French oak for 6 to 8 months, with
bâtonnage
once a week. The wine was then fined, filtered and bottled.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has a clean and bright appearance with a lemon-yellow colour. The nose is fresh and fruty with notes of pineapple, citrus and white peaches and soft notes of vanilla. The palate is complex, well balanced and with fresh acidity. This is a medium-bodied Chardaonnay with a long, sweet finish.
