DRY CREEK HERITAGE ZINFANDEL 2005 DRY CREEK HERITAGE ZINFANDEL 2005

Zinfandel is the classic Californian grape variety and although it does have European origins (after much investigation) the Americans have made it their own. This is an excellent example of the style showing ripe brambly fruit, lovely sweet spice and vanilla and soft ripe tannins.

VINEYARDS
This wine comes from the Sonoma valley in California and from vineyards that vary from a cool area with coastal influence (Russian River) to warm-hot area during summer (Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys). There vineyards are generally planted on rolling hills. There is a wide variety of soil types growing 15 year old Zinfandel vines, which are carefully managed through green harvesting and canopy management techniques. The grapes are variously machine harvested and hand picked depending on the vineyard and yield around 6 tons per acre.

GRAPE VARIETIES
85% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah

VINIFICATION
The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed and then macerated for 1 - 2 days before fermentation. Fermentation then took place in stainless steel tanks using cultured yeats at a maximum of 28°C for 16 days. The wine was then matured in medium toast French and American oak barrels for 12 months before filtering and bottling. The wine was then left to rest in bottle for 3 months before release.

TASTING NOTE
Aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, and cedar. On the palate, blackberry, currant, allspice, and bright cherry fruit combine with opulent ripe tannins. This wine will drink well now, but keep for 5+ years.
