LOOSEN WEHLENER SONNENUHR RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2007 Wehlen's "sundial" vineyard produces the quintessential Mosel Riesling; delicate and refined, with a racy minerality. The Spätlese ("late harvest") designation means the grapes are picked very ripe, resulting in a wine with a rich texture and deep flavours. This wine has a fine fruitiness that is balanced exquisitely by crisp Mosel acidity from one of its most famous vineyards VINEYARD Wehlener Sonnenuhr is the Sundial of Wehlen and this precipitously steep, rocky vineyard consistently yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world. The mineral-rich blue Devonian slate soil gives Wehlener Sonnenuhr (pronounced VAY-len-er ZON-en-ooer) wines a crisp acidity that perfectly balances the pure peach and lemon fruit. It's an aristocratic and charming wine that dances gracefully on the palate. GRAPE VARIETIES 100% Riesling VINIFICATION Loosen wines are all treated to minimal handling to maximise the ability of the varied vineyards to shine through in the wines. The grapes are whole cluster pressed before undergoing a long, slow and cold fermentation with natural yeasts. All the wines are fermented in casks and no filtration or de-acidification takes place. TASTING NOTE This is a crisp and cool wine, initially showing white peach, orange, sharper citrus and then apricot. Very long finish, with some considerable mineral notes and a beautifully balanced and refreshing acidity.
