DÖNNHOFF OBERHÄUSER BRÜCKE RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2007 DÖNNHOFF OBERHÄUSER BRÜCKE RIESLING SPÄTLESE 2007

This is a stunning single vineyard (Brücke) Spätlese from the Dönnhoff estate. The amazing thing about this wine is it purity of fruit and the lovely freshness that comes with it from the taut and balancing acidity. The Brücke wines are amongst the best in the Dönnhoff portfolio, delivering all the slate and lime elegance of Riesling at its most expressive, yet with plenty of grip and length.

VINEYARD
The Dönnhoff estate is located in the town of Oberhausen in the Nahe wine-growing region in Germany.

The vineyard area today totals 20 hectares, with holdings in the Niederhausen, Oberhausen, Norheim and Schlossböckelheim. They are planted exclusively with Riesling and the vineyards are mainly on volcanic soils.

The grapes for this wine are selected from the smallest vineyard site in the Nahe, an extremely sheltered and special parcel of land close to the river - "Brücke" means bridge. The microclimate experiences warmer days and cooler nights giving the grape a long and slow ripening period.

The soil is grey slate covered with loess-clay, producing very typical and clear cut Riesling wines with representitive fruit characteristics.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Reisling

VINIFICATION
Winemaking at Dönnhoff is straightforward and low intervention.

The grapes are whole bunch pressed and then the juice is settled for up to 18 hours before fermentation in either cask or stainless steel. The fermentation temperature is maintained at about 25-30 °C.

Wines fermented in wooden casks typically spend 2-3 months in cask and are then transferred to stainless steel. The wine spends 1 month on gross lees and 3 months on fine lees before being filtered and bottled.

TASTING NOTE
The nose of this wine is immediately fresh and very fruity, showing lime and some ripe pear and stone fruits. That signature Dönnhoff minerality is there too. The palate is very pure with lemon, lime and stone fruits dominating - with a lovely freshening and balancing acidty to offset any sweetness in the wine - stunning!
