DOMAINE DE TERREBRUNE BANDOL 2006
Domaine de Terrebrune is one of the finest producers of Bandol. This Provencal appellation is predominantly Mourvèdre and produces a wine with deep colour, spicy black fruit and a herby perfume. It has the ability to age for 10 and possibly 20 years, but can be happily enjoyed now. A super wine.
VINEYARD
Domaine de Terrebrune is located in the commune of Ollioules in the eastern part of the Bandol Appellation. The vineyard is terraced on the south facing slopes of the limestone Gros Cerveau.
Terrebrune itself sits on Triassic limestone gravel and brown clay, inspiring the name Terrebrune. The soil here is thin, c. 1 - 2m before bedrock of blue limestone.
No pesticides are used in the vineyard and the soil is worked mainly by hand. Pruning is scheduled in line with biodynamic methods and to either goblet (for the Mourvèdre) and double Royat for the Grenache and Cinsault.
A green harvest is practiced in June to give an average yield of 35 - 38 hl/ ha.
The grapes are handpicked and loaded into small containers before being transported to the winery.
GRAPE VARIETIES
85% Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault.
VINIFICATION
The grapes are de-stemmed, pressed and transferred by gravity into temperature controlled, stainless steel fermenting tanks for fermentation and then maceration of 15 to 21 days, with regular
remontage
After fermentation the wine is matured in 50 - 60 hl oak barrels for 18 months. After the wine is bottled, it is left to mature for a further 12 months before being released.
TASTING NOTE
The Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol has a well built structure, with the capacity to age for many years. However, it can drink well now as the tannins are fruity and not aggressive. The nose presents deep black fruit and a lovely liquorice spice. The deep black fruits follow through on the palate, with very appealing eucalyptus notes.
