DOG POINT SECTION 94 SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008 DOG POINT SECTION 94 SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008

Section 94 is the barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc version from Dog Point and therefore it's a New Zealand Sauvignon with a difference. Robert Parker called the 2006 vintage "a candidate for New Zealand's best Sauvignon Blanc" and gave it 94 points. We agree and this is made in tiny quantities and sells out very quickly, so don't miss your chance to try this unique wine.

VINEYARD
Dog Point Vineyard is situated at the confluence of the Brancott and Omaka Valleys and is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough.

The property owned by Ivan and Margaret Sutherland with its undulating terrain, clay loam soils and desirable northerly aspect is sensitively planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and farmed using sustainable viticultural practices.

Section 94 is made from Sauvignon Blanc grown in a specific area of the Dog Point vineyard. The title Section 94 dates back to an early survey of Marlborough, and in particular the subdivision of the vast Hawkesbury Run which at that time encompassed an area of "6878 acres, 7 roods and 5 perches".

Wine from this vineyard shows distinctive yellow fruit influence, which together with extended lees contact in older oak barrels produces a wine with considerable texture and flavour.

GRAPE VARIETIES
100% Sauvignon Blanc

VINIFICATION
Grapes are all hand-picked and the wine is fermented in stainless steel made, with minimal racking and handling. It's a non-interventionist, natural, hands-off technique that characterizes all Dog Point Wines.

The wine was then matured in old French oak barrels for eighteen months.

TASTING NOTE
The wine is straw green in colour with a bouquet of ripe citrus fruits with nuances of white blossom against concentrated yeast characters derived from extended contact with lees in old barrels.

The palate is complex and full bodied with excellent balance enhanced by a degree of minerality and a chalky texture.
