CULLEN MARGARET RIVER RED 2008 CULLEN MARGARET RIVER RED 2008

This fruit-forward wine captures the essence of Margaret River with its fresh, vibrant personality. A blend of Malbec and Merlot, this is the entry level wine for one of the most consistent and exciting ranges of wines coming out of Australia today. A great introduction to the wines of Cullen.

ONLY AVAILABLE IN UNSPLIT CASES OF SIX

VINEYARD
Margaret River Red is made from grapes grown entirely on the Cullen and Mangan vineyards. The Mangan vineyard is owned by Vanya Cullen's brother and sister-in-law (Bettina Mangan) and managed by Cullen.

The soils at Cullen are old, granite and gravely sandy loam, overlaying lateric subsoils. Biodynamic viticulture is practised on all the Cullen vineyards in order to maximise the flavours in the grapes by improving and sustaining their unique environment.

GRAPE VARIETIES
76% Malbec, 24% Merlot

VINIFICATION
All grapes were hand-harvested and sorted before crushing.

Fermentation was carried out in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks after which the wine was aged in French oak (8% new, 84% one year old and 8% two year old barrels) for 15 months before bottling.

TASTING NOTE
The wine is bright ruby red in colour with vibrant perfumes of dark fruits, blackberries and plums. On the palate there is plenty of juicy blackberry and black cherry fruit with touches of toasty oak and spice. Well balanced with rounded tannins and a long finish.
