COUDOULET DE BEAUCASTEL BLANC CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2006
The Coudoulet is a great expression of white wine and probably one of the greatest Côte du Rhône whites available. With a beautiful floral nose and a full bodied palate, this wine is a great accompaniment to many foods and something really different to "everyday" Chardonnay.

VINEYARD
The 30 hectares Coudoulet de Beaucastel vineyard lies just to the east of Beaucastel on the other side of the A7 autoroute.
When one looks at the geology of the soil at Coudoulet, the similarities with the soil at Beaucastel are legion. It is composed of a layer of marine limestone from the Miocene period, covered by a deposit of alpine diluvium. This blanket of rounded stones (or "galets") contributes much to the wines of Beaucastel: they retain the intense heat of the Mediterranean sun during the day then slowly disperse it to the vines during the night. They provide a head start to the vines in springtime. During the long Mediterranean summer, lack of water can stress the vineyard at times.
GRAPE VARIETIES
30% Marsanne, 30% Viognier, 30% Bourboulenc, 10% Clairette.
VINIFICATION
Handpicked grapes are collected in baskets prior to sorting, pneumatic pressing and clarification of the must, fermentation partially in oak barrels and partially in steel tanks.
The wine was then matured for eight months in barrels and steel tanks, before blending and bottling, without cold stabilisation.
TASTING NOTE
The wine has a pale gold colour, white gold reflections. The nose displays white flowers, and ripe juicy white fruits. The palate is round, full bodied with a nice balancing acidity and a finish of fruit pits and a hint of anis. This wine is a typical expression of a white Rhône with great freshness
